Happy Friday VIPs! How has your week been? I hope that wherever you are, you have some fun planned for the weekend. Perhaps that fun includes some cobbler or a bike ride to work.
Did you know that today is National Cherry Cobbler Day and National Bike to Work Day in the US? I personally prefer peach cobbler, but if there were a day dedicated to it, I might need to ride my bike to more places than work.
Saturday is Armed Forces Day and Sunday is National Devil’s Food Cake Day. Maybe instead of all this food, I need to head out and find a parade.
Looking for something else to celebrate? How about the fact that American Idol is finally over (at least til January)? I just can’t keep doing this. The show has long lost the spark it had when it first began 12 seasons ago. Nonetheless, AI crowned Candice Glover the winner this week. Lucky for her, the third time (auditioning, I mean) really was the charm for her.
As the first female to win since Jordin Sparks in season 6 and the first R&B singer since Fantasia, I guess one could say that she has some shoes to fill. For the first time in Idol history, after announcing Miss Glover as winner, her debut album, Music Speaks was open for preorder on Itunes. I hope she does well. It’d be nice to have another winner as successful as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
While we’re on the subject of Idol, can we talk about the glamorous mess that was Mariah Carey’s performance of a medley of her songs? The internet is abuzz saying that she lip-synced the whole time. While I say that the whole thing was a disorganized mess due to the abrupt song changes and such, I don’t think she lip synced the entire thing. There may have been parts, but hey it’s Mariah. She’s been singing to the world for 20-plus years. Is there anything left for her to prove? That dress and the chandeliers were quite over the top, though.
As a side note: Somebody should also tell J-Lo and Pitbull it’s time to stop putting out the same damn song every time we see her. Seriously. I love Jenny. I was her biggest fan when I was younger. But for real… On the Floor and Live It Up are like remixes of each other. She looked good though.
So, Russell Simmons tweeted Bey and Jay-Z a congratulatory message earlier. Could it be true that there’s a Baby Carter #2 on the way? Earlier this week, Beyonce had to cancel one of her shows in Belgium due to “dehydration and exhaustion.” This did nothing but fuel the rumors. I bet Baby Blue was just getting used to all the attention, too.
Danity Kane is coming back! For real, this time… DK will be back in the building sans Diddy. Aubrey, Shannon, Aundrea and Dawn are working to get new management and get in the studio. There’s no word on when this will happen, but for now I’m just happy with the idea.
Kelly Rowland dropped her new song, “Dirty Laundry” this week and I’m a little upset at the way everyone is reporting this. The song is about Kelly’s past abusive relationship and the way she handled it, however, everyone is taking the first verse and running with it because she said that she was envious of Beyonce during those trying times and watching her success. This song took a lot of courage to write and put out there for the people but everyone wants to stir up a rivalry between these two women. Why doesn’t anybody ever throw Michelle into the mix, huh? She ain’t worth the rivalry? I’m just saying… the song is amazing and I applaud Ms. Kelly for her honesty and openness.
