Rap mogul Jay-Z has confirmed reports that Will Smith’s nine year-old daughter, Willow, is signed to his Roc Nation label.

In addition to confirming the deal, Jay also explained how he met the singer.

“First off, I heard the record first, before I knew that it was recorded by a nine year-old,” Jay said in an interview with radio host Ryan Seacrest. “I was like, ‘Man, that record is a smash.’ — I went to Japan to do some stuff and they were out there and I met Willow and she walked in and the first thing she said was, ‘I’m really nervous,’ and I thought that maturity, explaining exactly how she was feeling as she was walking in the room, I knew right there she was a star. I believe in super stars and I believe in big records on super stars…Yes, [I signed her and we plan on helping her] facilitate all her ideas. As you’re going to learn today, if you sit with her for a half hour, you’ll see, she’s just a wealth of information and ideas…She’s a child, she has child innocence but she has a refreshing clear vision of what she wants to be…And I imagine that’s how Mike [Jackson] was as a kid.” (Rap Radar)
Speculation on Willow signing to Roc Nation developed a few days ago.

Jada Pinkett’s 9 year old daughter Willow Smith is pursuing a music career and brings it on a new track titled “Whip My Hair”. According to my buddy Lowkey, (who always stays up on the new sh*t): Willow is now taking her talents to the studio and it’s not half bad. Word around town is President Carter has given her a cosign and is allegedly bringing her aboard the Roc Nation ship. Reminds me of Rihanna and Ester Dean rolled in one. I think your readers will approve. (Necole Bitchie)
The singer’s new “Whip My Hair” record hit the Internet earlier this week.

The uber-stylish spawn of Will Smith and his actor wife Jada Pinkett-Smith, 9-year-old Willow Smith, unleashed a beast of a record on the internet yesterday in the form of her debut single “Whip My Hair.” The track is mood music for all the kiddies heading back to school and brushing off their haters and that super hard math tests with a sassy whip of their hair. Funny enough, “Whip My Hair” is also ear candy for those who are twice, even three times Willow’s age who want a song with a hard beat, catchy hook, and expletive-free lyrics to work out or hit their dougie to. The minute the song opens with Willow singing “I whip my hair back and forth,” you’re hooked. (Neon Limelight)
Earlier this summer, Smith’s mother, Jada Pinkett, said an album was in the works.

The 9-year-old singer, who is a fan of Rihanna and has her fashion style inspired by the Barbadian songstress, apparently is also influenced by the “Umbrella” hitmaker in this fresh material. Willow Smith’s music career has been hinted by her mother Jada Pinkett since June this year. At that time, the 38-year-old actress said, “Willow will be putting out an album soon and so I am excited about that, and she’s pretty awesome. (Peace FM Online)
