R&B singer Mario was reportedly arrested last night in Maryland for assaulting his mother, Shawntia Hardaway.

Details on the arrest landed online Friday (October 1) morning.

Mario — the platinum-selling R&B singer — was arrested in Baltimore for allegedly assaulting his own mother in an apartment they share. According to police, Mario’s mother Shawntia Hardaway — a former heroin addict — told cops the former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant had been “throwing and damaging property” … and pushed her around with his hands and forearms. Additional information on the incident has also been released.
Police said that the singer’s mother claimed he was “throwing and damaging property” in the Baltimore apartment they live in, and had “pushed her using his hands and forearms, causing minor pain.” Police said they found a damaged china cabinet, broken mirror, scattered glass pieces and a hole in a door when they inspected the residence. This is reportedly the second incident which took place over the past few days.

Hardaway told police this is the second time this week Mario has been violent with her, though she doesn’t explain why. Days earlier on September 27, mother and son got into a heated argument and Mario pushed Hardaway “eight feet into a living room wall, where Ms. Hardaway hit her head on the wall,” the Baltimore Sun quoted the police report as saying. The “Let Me Love You” singer was charged with 2nd degree assault and released on $50,000 bond. (Neon Limelight)
Mario’s mother has battled with a drug addiction in the past.

A few years ago, the singer started a charity to help young people struggling with drug abuse. The Baltimore Sun reported that the charity was a personal cause, as his mother has struggled for years with heroin addiction. Shawntia Hardaway’s story was chronicled on an emotional MTV special, “I Won’t Love You To Death: The Story of Mario and His Mom.” At the time of the article, she had been sober for a year, and was helping Mario with the foundation.
